Overview

In Pakistan, MDCAT results and merit lists are handled by different bodies depending on where you sat the test and where you are applying. For Punjab it is UHS, but other regions use other universities, so the first step is to identify the correct portal for your region.

Who handles what

RegionTesting and merit body (as listed by education sites)What to check

BalochistanBolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS)BUMHS and provincial admission notices

Testing and admission can be separate responsibilities. Confirm the current regional admitting authority and prospectus rather than assuming the test provider also allocates seats.

Islamabad applicants

If you live in Islamabad, you usually look at three groups of seats: federal government medical colleges under the Islamabad quota, seats open on merit in other provinces through reciprocal arrangements, and private colleges in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Federal merit lists have their own application window, so do not wait for the Punjab timeline.

Domicile matters. An Islamabad domicile may be required for particular ICT quota seats, but it does not guarantee eligibility for every federal category. If your family holds a domicile of another province, you may qualify for that province's seats. Check which one your prospectus recognises.

NUMS and armed forces seats

NUMS has its own admission policy, which has varied by year in how it treats MDCAT scores and additional tests. Read the current NUMS prospectus, because eligibility, seat allocations and fee structures differ from civilian public colleges.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh

For KP, check KMU for the result, aggregate calculation and merit list. For Sindh, note that the 2026 results are under a PMDC review, which Sindh MDCAT inquiry guide covers. Merit lists and admissions may be affected depending on what the review finds, so monitor official notices closely.

Reciprocal seats

Many provinces reserve seats for candidates from other regions. Eligibility depends on your domicile and the quota defined in each prospectus. If your merit is just below a home-province closing figure, reciprocal seats elsewhere can be a real option.

A simple decision flow

  1. Write down your domicile, board, and where you sat the test.
  2. Find the testing body for your test and the admission body for each region you want.
  3. Check each body's prospectus for eligibility, aggregate formula and dates.
  4. Build a spreadsheet of deadlines. Windows differ by region and can overlap.
  5. Apply to every region you are eligible for.
