MDCAT Electromagnetism MCQs 2026 | Lorentz Force, r = mv/qB

A magnetic field does no work on a charge. It only bends the path. Unit 10 is tesla, flux, sin and — a circle whose radius is a formula, not a drawing.

What MDCAT 2026 asks in Unit 46 Electromagnetism

PMDC Unit 10 is magnetism as a force on moving charge. The tesla is the field that puts on moving at perpendicular to B. Flux = B· cos ; edge-on a loop, flux is zero. The Lorentz force is always perpendicular to v, so it cannot change speed — only direction.

Perpendicular forever is a circle of radius Faster or heavier: bigger circle. Stronger B or larger q: tighter circle. Period does not depend on speed — that is the cyclotron fact. A parallel v feels nothing.

Twenty labs send a charge into B and the circle writes in front of you.

  • sin , direction by right-hand rule (for +).
  • if or if v is parallel to B.
  • = BA cos . Max face-on, zero edge-on.
  • Magnetic force does no work. KE is constant in a pure B field.

Often-asked Electromagnetism MCQ patterns

These are the Electromagnetism ideas that keep coming every year with new numbers.

  • Putting a magnetic force on a charge at rest.
  • Using when the question meant perpendicular.
  • Calling flux a vector in the MDCAT scalar- sense.
  • Writing (it is inverse).
  • Saying B speeds the charge up.

Worked Electromagnetism numericals (

Work these on paper first. Then open the Unit 46 quiz — the same numbers are in the questions, with wrong options built from the usual mix-ups.

Cyclotron radius

A proton (take numbers as given) of speed v enters B perpendicularly. Radius?

  1. Double v, double r. Double B, half r. Mass up, r up; charge up, r down.

The lab is a circle you can stretch with v and B.

Flux edge-on

A loop of area A in uniform B, plane of the loop parallel to B. Flux?

  1. The normal to the loop is then perpendicular to B, so
  2. = 0 even though B is not zero.

Zero flux edge-on. Faraday (Unit 11) cares about the change of this number.

Electromagnetism traps that steal the mark

A good option is a true sentence about the wrong quantity. If you miss, the quiz names the mix-up on the option you actually picked.

  • Putting a magnetic force on a charge at rest.
  • Using when the question meant perpendicular.
  • Calling flux a vector in the MDCAT scalar- sense.
  • Saying a magnetic field can speed a charge up.
  • Mixing electric force qE (which does work) with qvB (which does not).

How to practise Unit 46 Electromagnetism MCQs

On every stem, check three things: is the charge moving? is there a component of v perpendicular to B? is the question asking force, radius, or period?

Work and KE are Unit 3 habits. They do not apply to a pure magnetic force. If speed changes, an electric field is also in the room.

Sit Electromagnetism after Electrostatics (fields) and before EMI (changing flux).

FAQ

Common questions

Can a magnetic field speed a charge up?

No. F ⊥ v, so the speed is constant. Only the direction changes. The magnetic part of the Lorentz force has zero dot product with velocity and therefore does no work. An electric field can change kinetic energy, so distinguish a purely magnetic field from a combined electric and magnetic field.

What is one tesla in MDCAT words?

The B that exerts on a charge moving at perpendicular to the field. Use sin ; perpendicular motion gives The tesla can also be written N/(A·m), and the force reverses for a negative charge.

Does cyclotron period depend on speed?

No. Faster particles take a bigger circle in the same time. For non-relativistic motion perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field, the period is independent of speed and orbit radius. Use the magnitude of charge; the sign determines the direction of rotation.

When is magnetic flux zero?

When , or , or the loop is edge-on ( The angle in = BA cos is measured from the surface normal, not from the plane of the loop. A loop edge-on to the field has its normal perpendicular to the field.

How many Electromagnetism MCQs are available on DIFF. MDCAT?

The current Electromagnetism question bank contains 702 practice MCQs across 3 topics. This is the bank size, not the length of one test. Choose your topics and a question count from 1 to 180, limited by the questions available in those topics.

Which topics does the Electromagnetism quiz cover?

The selectable topics are Magnetic Field, Magnetic Flux, Charged Particles. Use Select all for a broad chapter drill, Clear to start a focused selection, or choose individual topics. Questions are drawn from your chosen topics, so you can target a weak concept before returning to a wider test.

How do I build a custom Electromagnetism test?

Open the chapter builder, select one or more topics, enter your question count, and choose Tutor Mode or Timed Exam. The available-question total updates with your selection. Start Test generates a shuffled drill; you do not have to follow a fixed Quiz 1 or Quiz 2 sequence.

What is the difference between Tutor Mode and Timed Exam?

Tutor Mode gives feedback and an explanation after you choose an option, and you can change or clear that choice. Timed Exam runs a countdown and keeps explanations hidden until submission. Both modes let you move between questions, use the paper map, and submit for a complete review.

How do I review and download my Electromagnetism quiz?

Select Submit Quiz, then Submit & View Explanations. The review includes every question in your test, all options, your selection, the marked correct answer when a key is available, and the explanation. Download PDF saves a paginated review; Download Review saves an HTML copy you can open in a browser. The review also includes DIFF. MDCAT community links.

How should I use Electromagnetism MCQs to improve?

Start with a short tutor drill on one of these topics: Magnetic Field, Magnetic Flux, Charged Particles. Read the explanation for incorrect and uncertain answers, revise the relevant textbook section, and retry before taking a timed drill. Compare your reasoning with the answer key rather than memorising the option letter.
