Overview

When your MDCAT score is different from what you expected, your first instinct might be to ask for a recount. For Punjab candidates in 2026, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) provided a formal route. The window has now closed, but understanding how it worked helps you check your result properly and prepare for future cycles.

Important: UHS set 30 September 2026 as the deadline for complaints. New applications are closed. Candidates whose bank challan was already generated can still access the portal to download it, upload their paid receipt, and check status. If you missed the application window, follow UHS notices for any further announcement.

What UHS announced

According to published reports:

  • UHS opened an online portal for recounting or review of MDCAT 2026 results for candidates who sat the exam in Punjab on 20 September.
  • The deadline for submitting complaints was 30 September.
  • UHS said it would process applications within five working days.
  • The university's decision on recounting would be final.

What you could raise

Candidates could use the portal to raise concerns about:

  1. The calculation of marks
  2. The reading of response sheets
  3. Answers listed in the official answer key
  4. Individual questions they believed needed review

UHS also published separate answer keys for different paper codes and gave candidates a facility to challenge disputed questions, with a requirement to identify the question and supply evidence.

What you needed to apply

  • A stated reason for the request
  • Your result card, uploaded
  • Optionally, a carbon copy of your bubble sheet as a record of the answers you marked
  • A bank challan, the required fee paid, and proof of payment uploaded

For reference only: in earlier years UHS charged different fees for plain recounting and for recounting with personal review. The 2026 fee was not stated in the reports we reviewed, so check the portal notice.

Recounting is not re-marking

Different universities word their notices differently, but the concept is usually the same. For example, a Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University notice for MDCAT 2025 explained that recounting means checking for:

  • computational mistakes in the grand total,
  • whether the marks in the answer sheet tally with the final marks,

and that the candidate's marks could go up or down after the check. It was explicitly not a re-assessment or remarking of answers.

Treat UHS's own notice as the authority for how its process worked.

How to check your own result before you file anything

  1. Get your paper code and the matching official key.
  2. Compare your carbon copy to the key, question by question.
  3. Count correct answers and compare with your official marks.
  4. Note discrepancies: marks that don't match, or questions where you believe the key is wrong.
  5. Collect evidence for any disputed question, such as a textbook reference with page number.
  6. Submit before the deadline, with all documents attached.

Our guide on using the MDCAT 2026 answer key walks through the scoring steps.

How to write a strong objection

A weak complaint says "the key is wrong." A strong one includes:

  • Paper code and question number
  • The answer given in the key and the answer you believe is correct
  • A specific, citable source (textbook name, edition, chapter, page)
  • A short explanation in two or three sentences

Authorities are far more likely to act on a documented, specific objection than on a bulk complaint.

If you missed the deadline

  • Watch UHS's official notices for any reopening or further steps.
  • Keep your carbon copy and documents safe; they matter for any later dispute.
  • Focus on admission planning with your official result, and on a re-attempt if you want to improve. Rebuild weak areas with chapter-wise MCQs and test yourself on UHS past papers.

Lessons for next year

  • Keep your carbon copy. Without it you cannot reconstruct what you marked.
  • Photograph your admit card and paper code on exam day.
  • Check your score within hours of the official key's release, not weeks.
  • Know the deadline. The window in 2026 was short.

Other regions

Other regions have had their own disputes over keys. In Balochistan, for instance, the High Court heard a petition about alleged errors in BUMHS answer keys. Read our summary: MDCAT 2026 court cases explained.
